Over 30 Ebola survivors in Margibi County have committed themselves as volunteers for the PREVAIL Natural Ebola History Study that is ongoing at the JFK Medical Center.Speaking at a one-day social mobilization, community engagement and awareness training of communicators, mobilizers and project focal persons’ workshop conducted by the Liberia Crusaders for Peace (LCP) held in Margi County, LCP Administrator Yah Bryant said, the study is intended to help Ebola survivors by examining their many health problems. She said survivors that enroll in the study stand to benefit from free medical examination for any health complication they may face, and will be referred to appropriate medical care centers for treatment.Madam Bryant encouraged survivors to take up the challenge and encourage others to join the study. In an interview with several survivors, some explained their stories in tears.Lawrence Tumbey said, “I got infected on August 5, when I went to work at C. H. Rennie hospital and helped a man who was very sick.“On the 8th of that same month, I fell sick and was taken to an ETU while several people said I was going to die because I reported myself late to the center. I faced hell and lost all hope because 17 of my friends that got infected by the virus died right by me in the room.“I survived but I began to face serious problems with my stomach and now I think the Natural Ebola History Study will find solution for me.”Also telling her story was 57 year-old Jeneva Kennedy, (commonly called in Margibi Nation) who welcomed the PREVAIL study and promised to serve as a volunteer as well as encourage others to join the study.“I worked at C. H. Rennie Hospital as nurse and it was on the 20th of July last year, my colleagues at the hospital called me to carry on a delivery. I quickly rushed to the hospital and delivered a woman without using gloves and not knowing she was Ebola positive and after few days she was confirmed positive and died.“The last week of July I came down with all of the symptoms of Ebola and was sent to the ELWA ETU in Monrovia. So many people discouraged me from going, saying that I would die. But through the grace of God I survived the killer virus, while over 8 persons died in my presence,” Madam Kennedy explained. The Natural Ebola History Study is being carried out at the John F. Kennedy Medical Center, while Duport Road Health Center in Paynesville, C. H. Rennie Hospital in Kakata, Margibi County, and Redemption Hospital in New Kru Town will be opening soon to join the study.Share this:Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)
Birthdays are brilliant and Laurent Koscielny celebrated his 31st in style with an outrageous overhead kick for Arsenal against Southampton. The Gunners had been 1-0 down following an agonisingly unlucky own goal from Petr Cech as a Dusan Tadic free-kick rebounded off the crossbar and went in off the goalkeeper’s head. But Frenchman Koscielny was on hand to level as with a strike of outstanding skill, flashing the ball home from debutant, and fellow birthday boy, Lucas Perez’s knockdown. And Arsenal fans on Twitter couldn’t hide their shock and delight, you can see what they had to say below… 1 Laurent Koscielny celebrates scoring for Arsenal
Arsene Wenger has admitted it was his fault he was sent off during Arsenal’s last-gasp win over Burnley on Sunday afternoon. The Gunners appeared to be heading to a 1-0 win when the Clarets were awarded an injury time penalty, leading to frustration from the Frenchman, who in turned pushed fourth official Anthony Taylor and said something to him which resulted in Wenger being dismissed. He is likely to be punished by the Football Association for his actions, but Wenger has moved to douse the fires early by apologising for his actions – and criticising his own desire to act out at a decision which he now believes was the correct one.Speaking to talkSPORT, Wenger said: “It was a penalty, yes. It looked like suddenly it went all against us in the final minutes, and I think I should just have shut up and said nothing.“I said something that you hear every day in football, but in my position it is to say nothing and accept the decision.”Andre Gray converted from the spot to tie the game at 1-1 in the dying stages, but Arsenal had fate on their side when they were awarded a penalty of their own in the 98th minute – Alexis Sanchez’s chipped finish securing the hosts all three points.SEE ALSO: Arsenal 2-1 Burnley: Gunners stars rated and slatedSEE ALSO: ‘Not good enough, we should sell him!’ – Arsenal fans blast ‘liability’ Granit XhakaThe crazy late action was unexpected given the Gunners’ control in the first hour of the match – control which was only lost following the dismissal of Granit Xhaka. The Swiss midfielder was imperious before seeing red for a reckless two-footed tackle on Steven Defour, and losing him allowed Burnley to gain a foothold in the game.It is the second time Xhaka has been sent off in his Arsenal career – and the SIXTH time across the last two seasons – and Wenger admits he cannot complain about the decision. He added: “We don’t encourage our midfielders to go down into tackles, and if it is a bad tackle it is a red card. I cannot complain about that.”

We thought this game is ours. But cricket’s a funny game. So I said to Shikhar, ‘let’s go downstairs and support the guys’.”So I’m sitting there (dugout) in my shorts and then the match was tied. I was just hanging around there waiting to see who was going to bowl when James Hopes said, ‘go put your stuff on’. I went upstairs, still wasn’t sure, Chris Morris had his clothes on and it was either me, him or Sandeep (Lamichhane), that was going through my mind. And then Hopes said ‘it’s you’.”Obviously lots of nerves. I just saw it as a simulation and glad it paid off. You have to keep your wits about you and be really clear on what you have to bowl. I just went with yorkers and it worked in the end. I was clear and backed my plan,” he said.advertisement”I was in my shorts, but then they told me – it’s you!”And what followed – Yorkers @KagisoRabada25 reveals how he learnt that he was bowling the super over against KKR. @DelhiCapitals #DCvKKR #VIVOIPL pic.twitter.com/TZ9798NKArIndianPremierLeague (@IPL) March 31, 2019The precision with which he bowled the six balls made all sit up and take note, but he didn’t wish to compare himself to greats like Wasim Akram or Curtly Ambrose who could bowl yorkers at will.”I thought, ‘Big boundary, hmm, what do we bowl here?’ We could bowl bouncers. We could bowl slower balls. But it’s risky. It’s gamble balls. I wasn’t really feeling [like] them on the day. On another day, I could have felt [like bowling] them. But today I felt [like bowling] the yorker.””If you see, some of the bowlers like Ambrose, Akram, Waqar Younis used the yorker as a wicket-taking delivery and surprised batsmen with it. The batsmen knew it was coming, but couldn’t do much about it. Those players as also the likes of Lasith Malinga and Jasprit Bumrah are natural with the yorkers. But you can also develop it with practice,” he explained.Celebrations galore at the Kotla as the @DelhiCapitals clinch a thriller in the Super Over #DCvKKR pic.twitter.com/9ryZTgd9u0IndianPremierLeague (@IPL) March 30, 2019Asked why the yorker wasn’t used against Andre Russell in the main innings, Rabada said: “I was thinking at the start of my run-up, ‘Do I go length?’ Because Andre Russell is going to hit anything that is full. So I still second-guessed myself, which is not a very good thing. You don’t want to run in with two things in your mind.””The yorker doesn’t always come out right. I am sure the bowlers wanted to, but when you miss the yorker, it comes out as a length ball. I think the bowlers tried. I was going to bowl them as it was my plan B.”In the Super Over, I decided early. I thought I could bowl bouncers or slower balls, but they are risky gamble balls. I felt the yorker was coming out well. I was thinking if I should go length because Russell will hit anything that is full. I was running in second guessing, but I backed the yorker.”Also Read | Prithvi Shaw fell 1 run short of becoming IPL’s youngest-ever centurionAlso Read | Andre Russell crosses 1000 runs at breathtaking strike rate of 185.33Also Read | Missed the chance to finish the game for Delhi Capitals: Prithvi Shaw after 99Also Read | IPL 2019: Prithvi Shaw 99 the highlight as Delhi Capitals beat KKR in Super OverFor sports news, updates, live scores and cricket fixtures, log on to indiatoday.in/sports. Washington DC: Pakistan’s powerful Army is unlikely to change its decades old policy of supporting non-State actors for conducting terrorist activities against its neighbours, a top Mohajir leader said as Prime Minister Imran Khan arrived here for his first meeting with US President Donald Trump. “It’s hard to see a significant shift in the US-Pakistan relationship based on this visit alone. The Pakistani military will have to radically transform its current policy of harbouring and supporting religious extremist elements before Pakistan could expect a significant improvement in relations with the US,” Nadeem Nusrat, head of the US-based Voice of Karachi, said. Also Read – Saudi Crown Prince ‘snubbed’ Pak PM, recalled jet from USRepresenting the Mohajirs based in the US, the Voice of Karachi has planned a series of peaceful protests during Khan’s visit against human rights violations by the Pakistani security forces. Mohajirs are Urdu-speaking people who migrated from India during partition. A large number of Mohajirs reside in Sindh province’s urban areas – notably in Karachi, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas and Sukkur. Nusrat said that Pakistan, or to be precise, its military establishment, has repeatedly deceived the US by supporting elements that are a threat to American interests and the national security. Also Read – Record number of 35 candidates in fray for SL Presidential polls”The past US Administrations, for one reason or another, continued to ignore this apparent deception but the current Administration is different. Pakistan now has to demonstrate a meaningful shift in its past policies clearly, or it is likely to face even more financial challenges and growing diplomatic isolation,” Nusrat said. The powerful army, which has ruled Pakistan for more than half of its 70 plus years of existence, has hitherto wielded considerable power in the matters of security and foreign policy. “Pakistani military establishment, which runs Pakistan, has for long treated religious extremist outfits such as Jamat-ud-Dawa, Jaish-e-Mohammad, etc. as national, or security assets. Some experts believe that these outfits are an extension of the Pakistani military. The real question here is: Can Pakistani Military abandon its prized assets such as JuD and the Taliban? The answer is an emphatic no,” he said in response to a question. Nusrat said JuD chief Saeed may be in prison today, but this hasn’t happened for the first time. Saeed has been arrested many times in the past, he noted. He said that if the country’s leadership, in particular the generals, want Pakistan to become a respectful, viable, prosperous and progressive state, they will have to admit that Pakistan is not home to its Punjabi population alone.
